Inequality and tin foil churches - Invasion day in the colony
It's Invasion Day weekend, and down under we are wrapping our churches in foil, because it's going to be another roaster.
Since half the country burnt in 2019, we haven't heard about bringing back indigenous land management practises. We haven't heard about extra money for the CFA, we haven't heard about climate change policies which aim to reverse the heating we are marching towards, that is in fact, already here a degree.
Meanwhile, everyone's wringing their hands about hate speech laws. But they're only focusing on anti-semitism. The main point is because we had our first terrorist attack on Australian shores. It was horrendous, but also after witnessing more than 2 years of a blatant genocide, extreme things occur. People feel things, people act on things. It's not right, but it's obvious to see how it happened.
How about some hate speech laws for the blatant racism towards brown people in this country, you know - the original Australians. Who were here for 60,000 years when we've only been here for 250. How about hate speech laws for immigrants of all kinds, for queer people, how about hate speech laws for the undertone of misogyny that permeates every workplace??
It's the same as the fires.
The reason we haven't done anything about indigenous back burning is because the people threatened by fire are rural. Do you need me to translate that?
They are not wealthy.
Same as most of the minorities in this country. Not wealthy. Not backed by superpowers run by megalomaniacs taking the world hostage with its actions.
I don't post much political stuff anymore. It's an instant shadow ban for me, even if I put up a story of hope, of resistance. Lately I focus a lot on Hope and Resistance.
But let me tell you my friends, resistance is all we have left. Community is all we have left.
Nobody is coming to save us.
Especially not these politicians.
Especially not the newly minted billionaires at the top of this convict colony who are the descendants of the screws who kept us subjugated in the first place. And I mean everyone.
We have an ongoing genocide down under. It's the stolen generations, it's land back, it's the wildlife that is not protected by our government. And it's the othering of anyone different here.
The only people looked after, are both white - and wealthy. That's the reality.
It's becoming more and more apparent to me, and it's like a scab I can't stop picking off, to watch the blood flow like all the natural resources that we don't tax and send overseas and meanwhile a sole trader will pay 40% of every dollar earnt to try and risk, to try and do something different. We are penalised unless we fall in line.
I don't have a pretty conclusion for you my friends. All I know is we are tin foiling our fucking churches Down Under, because the people in power aren't listening. Because the people in power are gutless fucks, who only look after their own.
It's invasion day weekend.
It's not a date to celebrate.
It's a date we need to change, it's wording we need to adopt, its apologies we need to make collectively, which mean something.
Always was, always will be Aboriginal land.
Even if we raze it to the ground with our tin foiled colonial monuments, a history that we should reflect on with shame. We have lots to be proud of and we could lead the world in so many ways.
Water the garden, call your friends in rural locations, batten the hatches, and get ready to fight for a just country. A fair country.
Because increasingly no one's getting a fair go and we all know it.
🖤
